Overview

The Foundation in Information Technology (FIT) programme is a pre-degree course designed to prepare students for university education. It is suitable for school leavers from any Advanced Level stream who wish to strengthen their foundation in ICT, English communication, and Mathematics. Many students who enter degree programmes, especially external degrees, face difficulties due to weaknesses in these areas. The FIT programme was developed to address this gap by improving computer literacy, analytical thinking, and communication skills required for higher education.

In addition, FIT serves as an alternative pathway for students who do not possess Advanced Level qualifications but wish to enroll in the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) programme, provided they have completed studies up to the Ordinary Level. It also functions as a valuable certification for school leavers and job seekers to demonstrate their ICT knowledge and skills. Upon successful completion of the programme assessments, participants receive a certificate issued by the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), one of the most reputable ICT education institutions in Sri Lanka.
